Editions
AerieOS is the AI workshop and the NAS, on a machine of its own, in three forms. Aerie Workshop is the AI workshop alone, as a container. It is the same software in all of them, and a controller moves between them without losing its nodes.
| Edition | Runs on | What it is for | How it installs | State |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aerie Workshop | A container on any host with Docker: a NAS, a home server, a VPS | The AI workshop alone: the dashboard beside everything else the host runs, nodes elsewhere, and no storage of its own | docker compose up, or the app template on a NAS | Released |
| AerieOS, bare-metal install | A Linux machine of its own | One box that is the controller and its own node: the dashboard, the builds, the sessions and the storage | install-controller.sh --install, updates from the page | Released |
| AerieOS, as its own OS | A machine or a VM, installed from the ISO | The bare-metal install as an appliance: a read-only root in two slots, an update that falls back by itself, the disks as pools, an array and shares | Boot the ISO and pick a disk | Experimental |
| AerieOS, USB edition | A stick in any x86-64 machine | AerieOS loaded into memory at boot, its configuration kept on the stick, the machine's disks its storage | The stick maker, on Windows, a Mac or Linux | Experimental |
Aerie Workshop and the bare-metal install are what AerieOS has shipped as since 0.6. The OS and USB editions are new in 0.9: try them on a machine or a VM you can wipe, and expect rough edges.
Updates
Every edition follows the releases as they are published. AerieOS writes an update into its other slot and falls back by itself if the new one does not come up.
